Business Growth Calculator

Measure how fast revenue, customers, or sales have grown over time, and express that growth as a compound annual rate that can be compared across businesses.

Formula / method: Total growth = ((Ending value - Starting value) / Starting value) x 100. CAGR = ((Ending / Starting) ^ (1 / Years) - 1) x 100.

Enter your figures and click Calculate.

How to Use

  1. Enter the starting value, such as revenue in the first year.
  2. Enter the ending value in the latest year.
  3. Enter the number of years between the two values.
  4. Click Calculate Growth.
  5. Compare the CAGR with your target and with competitors.

Why This Matters

Total growth alone can mislead. Doubling revenue sounds impressive, but doubling over ten years is slow, while doubling in two years is fast. CAGR smooths growth into a single yearly rate, so a three-year result can be compared fairly with a five-year result. Investors, lenders, and founders use CAGR to judge whether growth is sustainable or driven by one unusual year. It also helps set targets: if a business grows at 15 percent a year, its revenue will roughly double in five years, which makes hiring and stock planning easier.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is CAGR?

CAGR is the compound annual growth rate: the steady yearly rate that would take a starting value to an ending value over a given number of years.

Why use CAGR instead of average growth?

Average yearly growth can be distorted by one big year. CAGR reflects compounding and gives a cleaner comparison across periods.

Can CAGR be negative?

Yes. A negative CAGR means the value fell over the period, shown as a negative percentage.

Does CAGR predict future growth?

No. It describes past growth only. Future growth depends on market conditions, competition, and execution.
